House fire deaths in Severn called ‘suspicious’

WASHINGTON —A house fire in Anne Arundel County on Thursday is being described as “suspicious,” after the bodies of a male and female were discovered at the scene and at least one is being considered a homicide.

The fire was dispatched to Severn around 3:40 a.m., in the 1200 block of Old Camp Meade Road, where emergency responders discovered the body of a white female on the first floor.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department says the body of an unidentified white male was discovered the next day, when crews arrived to investigate and clear the scene.

Officials have identified the woman as Diana Lynn Knight, 59, from that address. A media release Sunday morning said the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her cause of death as trauma to the upper body with the “manner being homicide.”

The man, who remains unidentified, was also sent to the examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Several animal remains were also found, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Fire officials did not say what caused the fire. Police have taken over the investigation.

Anne Arundel County Police are urging anyone with information to call homicide Det. Dan Myers at 410-222-3413. If people with information wish to remain anonymous, they can contact the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line 410-222-4700.
