Prince William Co. police arrest napping baby sitter in child neglect case

WASHINGTON — Police have arrested a baby sitter who fell asleep on the job, allowing the children in her charge to wander outside, and then fled from police.

Prince William County police arrested 20-year-old Amanda Sue Allen on Thursday after police says she neglected a 2-year-old and 11-month-old earlier this week.

On July 15, neighbors notified police of a 2-year-old boy and 11-month-old girl unattended outside of an apartment in the 3500 block of Briarwood Drive in Dumfries, Virginia. Police responded and located the children’s residence, where they found Allen asleep, according to a police report.

At some point during the investigation, Allen climbed out of a rear bedroom window and fled the area. Additionally, she gave police a false name.

Police were able to identify Allen as the baby sitter and discovered she was wanted for probation violation.

On Thursday, police arrested Allen without incident at a residence on Burbank Lane in Woodbridge, Virginia. She is charged with two counts of felony child neglect and one count of giving false identity to law enforcement.

Allen is begin held without bond. Her court date has not yet been set.
