Dupont Circle bar debuts 48-ounce cocktail

WASHINGTON – It’s not for the faint of heart — or liver — but if you’re in the mood for a drink that’s as big as your head, a Dupont Circle restaurant has launched a new 48-ounce cocktail.

It’s called the “Big Dirty,” and it takes six (yes, six) cocktail shakers to fill this bad boy.

Since launching about three weeks ago, Dirty Martini has been selling roughly 35-40 of the cocktails a week, at $79.99 a pop.

And, if you’re not a martini drinker, the Dirty Martini’s bartenders — or mixologists, as they prefer — will make you a specialized cocktail based on your flavor preferences.

The drink is meant to be shared with a group of friends: they will provide smaller martini glasses and a ladle for you to split the drink, or a handful of straws. They will not serve the big drink to just one person.

“If you don’t have a friend to share it with you should have a friend who will carry you out,” jokes mixologist, Matt Allred.

The place also serves a Latin-Mediterranean inspired menu, should you find the need to cushion the landing before a “Big Dirty.”

It’s meant to be a fun play on their name, says marketing director, Katie Asprovski. “It’s something you can bring your closest friends with you and share a drink, literally share a drink,” she says with a smile.
