WASHINGTON — The Washington Monument reopened at noon Friday.
“Electricians and elevator technicians have completed testing of the elevator’s electrical system and determined it is not subject to a repeat of the power failure that occurred Wednesday evening,” Mike Litterst, a spokesman for the National Park Service, says in a statement.
He says technicians will stay on site until the monument closes at 10 p.m. Friday.
The electrical issue forced the monument to close Thursday morning and Friday morning.
It was the third time the elevator has had a problem since the monument reopened after earthquake repairs.
