WASHINGTON — A 39-year-old mother died Monday after she was hit by a dump truck while putting her child into her minivan.

Arlington County police say Jennifer Lawson was parked on the 5900 block of Little Falls Road in front of Nottingham Elementary School around 11:30 a.m. when she was hit. The driver-side rear door of the van was sheared off by the force of the crash.

Her child wasn’t hurt.

Lawson, of Arlington County, died around 4:30 p.m. at a hospital.

The dump truck driver remained on scene and is cooperating, say police.

Anyone with information should contact the Arlington County police at 703-228-4618 or email Detective Mohammed Tabibi at Mtabibi@arlingtonva.us.
