Driver sought in fatal Anne Arundel hit-and-run

WASHINGTON – Maryland State Police are searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash Tuesday morning in Anne Arundel County.

Police say the crash occurred on Interstate 97 between Route 32 and Benfield Boulevard. A preliminary investigation indicates a truck traveling north on I-97 between 3 and 3:30 a.m. went into the median, hit a guardrail and overturned.

Police say the truck’s driver and a passenger were both ejected, and as the passenger apparently tried to stand up while in the southbound lanes of I-97, he was hit by a vehicle that did not stop after the collision. Police say the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not have a description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital. Anne Arundel fire officials say he suffered life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or was in the area at the time is asked to call police at (410) 761-5130.
