WASHINGTON — Wizards point guard John Wall ranks fifth among Eastern Conference point guards in the first returns of NBA All-Star voting. Miami’s Dwayne Wade (300,595 votes) and Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving (138,191) are the leading vote-getters among Eastern Conference guards, followed by Toronto’s Kyle Lowry (128,131), Chicago’s Jimmy Butler (111,220) and Wall (103,094).
Wall has appeared in the last two NBA All-Star games and earned his first career All-Star start last February after finishing first in fan voting among Eastern Conference guards.
The Wizards have played below expectations this season, and despite their current three-game winning streak, they remain below .500 on the year at 13-14.
Wall has started all 27 games for the Wizards this season despite dealing with a variety of injuries including a sprained ankle, a knee bruise and an MCL sprain.
The sixth-year guard had a career-high 19 assists in the Wizards’ 113-99 win over the Sacramento Kings on Monday and leads all Eastern Conference guards with 9.6 assists per game this season.
Wall has been especially impressive in December, leading the Wizards with 22.8 PPG and 11.6 APG despite playing with a severely shorthanded roster that has been without Bradley Beal and Nene, among others.
Wizards center Marcin Gortat ranks 14th in voting among Eastern Conference frontcourt players. LeBron James leads all Eastern Conference voters, while Kobe Bryant leads all vote getters league-wide.
