Harper named NL Player of the Week

WASHINGTON — The Nationals’ Bryce Harper has been named the National League Player of the Week in recognition of the right fielder’s hot streak, hitting six home runs in three games.

Harper hit three homers in Wednesday’s game against the Miami Marlins. He followed that performance with two home runs Friday, a walk-off home run Saturday and a double against the Atlanta Braves Sunday. He also batted in 13 runs.

According to the Nats, Harper is only the fifth Major League player to hit six or more home runs and to bat in 12 or more runs in a three-game span since 1920, when RBI became an official stat for the league.

The most recent player to match Harper’s feat was Manny Ramirez in 1998.

This is the first time Harper has been named Player of the Week. He was twice recognized as Rookie of the Month in 2012.
