WASHINGTON — Not only is Dec. 24 Christmas Eve, but it’s also Week 16 in the National Football League. And like last week, fans who aren’t worried about their Christmas shopping can see the Burgundy and Gold (6-8) take on the Denver Broncos (5-9) at FedEx Field for a nice price.
Standing-room seats are available on StubHub for about $6, and upper-deck seats can be had for less than $9.
“It’s going to be friends and family only I think on Sunday,” said WTOP Redskins reporter George Wallace. ” … I don’t think the Broncos have that many fans that travel or that live in this area.”
While it’s not a divisional rival, there are a few reasons D.C. fans might want to turn out: It won’t be too unpleasant (Sunday’s forecast high is the mid 40s), and they’d get to see Kirk Cousins’ possible swan song as the quarterback.
It’s the third-straight year that Cousins has been in the last year of his contract, and “he realizes this year there’s more of a reality that this could be the final home game for him,” said Wallace, who pointed out that he could end up signing with the Broncos.
And even though both teams are out of playoff contention, the Redskins (who sustained injuries at key positions throughout the year) are still playing for pride in the form of a .500 season.
“The best they could do is 8-8, and I think that would be considered a big-time success,” Wallace said.
Kickoff is Sunday at 1 p.m.
