WASHINGTON — The Burgundy and Gold have added a legendary name to their offseason roster.
Nico Marley, a 5-foot-8, 200-pound linebacker, signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent after a rookie minicamp at the team’s facility in Loudoun County, Virginia.
You’re probably wondering, and the answer is yes: He’s indeed related to that Marley. Reggae icon Bob Marley is his grandfather.
Whether or not he’s a legendary NFL talent will be determined in the months to come.
Football talent runs in the family, too. His father, Rohan, played for the University of Miami Hurricanes alongside such NFL legends as Ray Lewis and Warren Sapp (as well as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson).
Nico Marley, 22, racked up a nice stat sheet at Tulane University: He was a first-team All-American Conference linebacker for two seasons, and he led the team in tackles (88) his senior year.
He is small compared with a typical inside linebacker in the NFL. But he has reportedly spent the offseason learning the strong safety position, which might be a better fit for his size.
Cornerback Tevin Homer and tight end Manassah Garner signed with Washington as free agents on Monday.
