‘Wonder Woman 1984’ spent big bucks in N. Va., DC; here’s how much it got back through incentives

The production of “Wonder Woman 1984” spent roughly $30 million between Virginia and D.C., of which it received back about $1.6 million through the two jurisdiction’s tax incentive programs.

“Wonder Woman 1984,” directed by Patty Jenkins, premieres in theaters on June 5, nearly two years after the production took over Alexandria’s Landmark Mall and the streets of Georgetown and downtown D.C. — all of which feature prominently in the movie’s trailer.

The DC Films production, to be distributed by Warner Bros., was required to turn over its receipts in order to take advantage of both Virginia and D.C.’s tax incentives.

In Virginia, the production filmed for 13 days and spent $24.8 million, including $18 million of Virginia and non-Virginia wages that were subject to the commonwealth’s income tax, according to Andy Edmunds, director of the Virginia Film Office. “Wonder Woman 1984” was responsible for 6,790 room nights in Virginia hotels, $243,000 in private and corporate housing, 220…
