NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) _ The Virginia Living Museum has launched a campaign to raise $5 million over the next year.
The Future Ready campaign is part of the nonprofit museum’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The museum says in a news release that one of the campaign’s goals is to reduce its dependence on funding from the city of Newport News.
Other goals include a permanent dinosaur trail, a new animal care facility, promotion of science education and increasing services to underserved groups and active duty military families in the region.
Campaign chair Charles W. Wornom says the museum has received pledges totaling $2.4 million toward the campaign’s goal.
