WASHINGTON — It’s been unbearably hot in the D.C. area this week. Temperatures hover in the 90s; with the humidity, it feels even hotter.
If someone offered $100, would you sit in a parked car for 10 minutes on a sizzling summer day? Kars4Kids in New Jersey issued the Hot Car Challenge to adults to try.
They all writhed in their seats. Some were visibly agitated by the excessive heat. They all pressed the “Easy” button to leave the car and get glasses of water.
The video, posted June 29, has been viewed 1.6 million times.
USA Today reached out to Kars4Kids to determine if the people were actors. Janette Fennell, president and founder of KidsAndCars.org, told USA Today that “this seems like a publicity stunt.”
Either way, it raises awareness about the risks of leaving young children unattended in hot vehicles.
