WASHINGTON — A man is wanted for a carjacking and a shooting that happened Monday in Stafford County, Virginia.
Robert H. Leegrand III is also wanted for a burglary in Prince William County, grand larceny in Fairfax County, and resisting arrest in Manassas City, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a call about shots fired from a vehicle in the area of Barrows Court in Stafford County. Someone in a dark-colored Audi was shooting at people inside a dark-colored Dodge, witnesses told deputies.
By the time deputies arrived at the scene, the parties involved had left. A nearby residence was struck during the shooting, but no one was hurt, the sheriff’s office said.
Around 12:45 p.m., deputies came into contact with the suspect in his vehicle, but he quickly fled, driving down a hill at the end of a cul-de-sac and hitting an Interstate 95 guardrail. The suspect then jumped out of his vehicle and hijacked another vehicle that was traveling south on I-95, the sheriff’s office said.
He drove off southbound and left the vehicle’s previous occupant behind, uninjured. That stolen vehicle was later found unoccupied.
Law enforcement officials are still looking for Leegrand; Stafford High School was partially on lockdown just before 1 p.m. but the lockdown was shortly lifted.
Anyone with information on Leegrand can contact the sheriff’s office at (540) 658-4400.
