Man who led Va. sheriff’s deputies on chase had drugs, 2-year-old in car

WASHINGTON — A man had drugs and family members with a protective order against him in his vehicle when he led Stafford County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase Friday night.

Officials arrested Robert Dehn, a 35-year-old Stafford resident, after a car and foot chase.

Around 11 p.m. Friday night, a deputy on patrol saw a gray sedan driving with no headlights. When the deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, it sped off at “a high rate of speed” onto Ridgecrest Court in Stafford where the deputy saw the driver, later identified as Dehn, nearly crash into another vehicle, according to a news release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Monday.

The vehicle skidded to a stop, and officials say Dehn ran away. Deputy W.C. Betush chased him and arrested Dehn after he slipped on a hill in the area of Providence Street.

A deputy searched Dehn’s pockets and found white powder as well as marijuana. Dehn said the white substance was “headache powder” and some was trace amounts of cocaine, said Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Amanda Vicinanzo. The powder is undergoing lab analysis.

Officials found multiple pills in the vehicle as well.

Also in the car were Dehn’s wife and 2-year-old child who have a protective order against him. Dehn told deputies that he led police on the chase because they were in the car, according to the release.

Dehn is charged with obstructing justice, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, possession of controlled substances, eluding police, driving without headlights, abuse and neglect of children, and violation of a protective order. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
