WASHINGTON — After a rollicking game last week between Friendship Collegiate and H.D. Woodson, voting is now open for this week’s DMV High School Football Game of the Week (at the bottom of the page).
Before we get to this week’s matchups, though, here’s how last Friday night’s game was decided — on a controversial touchdown run by Knights running back Josiah Crute, his third score of the game … or was it?
Touchdown #3 of the night for #3…or was it? Refs confer, count it. 25-19 Knights (PAT blocked again), 57 seconds left #DMVGOTW pic.twitter.com/UTBQKo3uZJ

With just 57 seconds remaining in a tie game, the ball came out either shortly before or shortly after Crute crossed the goal line. The refs conferred and ruled the play a touchdown rather than a touchback, with Friendship hanging on for a 25-19 victory.
Can any of this week’s matchups bring us that level of excitement? Virginia powers Centreville (3-1) and South Lakes (4-0) meet up with the Seahawks on a run of four dominant performances in which they’ve cleared 40 points each time and allowed an average of just six points the other way. But this is a rematch of last year’s 22-20 Seahawks playoff win. Can the Wildcats get revenge?
In Maryland, Paint Branch (3-0) hosts Blair (2-1) with each team coming off solid wins. The Panthers rolled Whitman last week, but took a while to get clicking. Will a slow start haunt them against a Blair squad that put up 14 first-quarter points in its win over Wheaton last week?
And in the District, St. John’s (2-1) got a breather from the toughest schedule in the country after their game with IMG Academy was canceled due to Hurricane Irma. They’ll need the extra rest and preparation before taking on St. John Bosco (3-1), one of the top teams in the country, from Southern California. After a season-opening, overtime loss to national power St. Thomas Aquinas, Bosco has crushed its last three opponents. The Cadets’ only blemish was a tough 35-31 loss at another California power, De La Salle. The two will meet Saturday afternoon.
UPDATE: We’ll see you in Reston for Centreville vs. South Lakes Friday night!
