1 arrested in fatal Manassas shooting

WASHINGTON — A 20-year-old Manassas, Virginia, man has been charged with murder for his role in the fatal shooting of a man outside a restaurant early Monday, the city’s lone homicide this year.

Officers responded to Don Julio Restaurant for a report of shots fired about 1:10 a.m. and found Wilfredo Guardado-Huezo, 25, of Manassas, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital were he later died, police said.

Almost 24 hours after the shooting, police arrested Denis Alexander Sanchez in connection with Guardado-Huezo’s death. Sanchez was being held without bail on Tuesday, said police spokeswoman Adrienne Helms.

Police initially said they were looking for two young men spotted near the restaurant in surveillance images. Helms said investigators aren’t sure how many people may have been involved and they are looking into whether gang activity might have played a role in the shooting.

“We have a couple descriptions from the surveillance footage of two males between 15 and 21 years old,” Helms said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Manassas City police at 703-257-8092.

Homicides are rare in Manassas, Helms said. The city reported just one violent death in 2016.
