Police investigate Saturday morning homicide in Gainesville

WASHINGTON — An early morning shooting left one man dead, one seriously wounded, and another with minor injuries in Gainesville, Virginia on Saturday.

According to police, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Old Linton Hall Road and Charis Avenue at around 2 a.m. Upon arrival, they found two men in a parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds.

The men were taken to nearby hospitals, where one of the victims, Claude Lee Jackson III, a 23-year-old from Gainesville, died from his injuries.

The second victim, identified as a 22-year-old man from Bristow, Virginia, is suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to police.

While investigating, officers were approached by a third person, a 25-year-old man from Manassas, Virginia who was suffering from a “minor graze wound to the hand.”

 

The suspect had left the scene prior to police arrival, according to the report, possibly in a light colored SUV.

Police think a physical altercation led to the shooting.
