Man killed in crash on Capital Beltway near Forestville

WASHINGTON — A man from Prince George’s County died after the car he was driving crashed into a billboard on the Capital Beltway early Monday morning.

Maryland State Police said a silver Mercy Grand Marquis was traveling northbound on I-495 just south of D’Arcy Road in Forestville, Maryland, when police believe the driver lost control of the car.

The car traveled onto the left shoulder and off the roadway before crashing into a State Highway Administration electronic billboard.

The car overturned and came to rest in the center median.

The driver was identified as 35-year-old Jerome Sligh, 2nd, of Glenn Dale, Maryland. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash closed the northbound lanes of I-495 south of D’Arcy Road for several hours.

Police are still investigating the crash however they do not believe alcohol was a factor.
