WASHINGTON — A man was killed in Chillum, Maryland, after an early morning shooting Tuesday, and Prince George’s County police are still investigating the circumstances around his death.
Deontae Parker, 32, was killed in the shooting, which happened around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday.
After a resident of a home in the 6200 block of Sligo Parkway called 911 to report the shooting, officers found Parker outside with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead shortly after, police said.
Police believe a homeowner shot Parker from inside the house and that Parker had broken into the homeowner’s vehicle. Police have also recovered the handgun used in the shooting from the homeowner and have home surveillance video that shows what Parker was doing before the shooting.
Police believe the homeowner and Parker did not know each other.
Police also believe there may have been another person who fled the scene before officers arrived. No one else was injured.
Detectives are looking into whether the homeowner’s actions were justified and whether there are any potential criminal charges.
