Traffic back to normal after car carrier overturns on I-95 ramp

WASHINGTON — A crash involving a car carrier caused major delays on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway in Maryland just as Monday morning rush hour began.

A flat-bed trailer being towed by a pick-up truck was carrying two cars when it overturned on an exit ramp to northbound Interstate 95 in Adelphi, with the cars being tossed off the trailer. One of the cars caught fire and started a brush fire that has since been put out. No injuries were reported in the crash, according to Prince George’s Fire spokesman Mark Brady.

The ramp reopened around 8:15 a.m. after being closed for about an hour. Delays lasted for around another hour after the ramp reopened but traffic was back to normal by 9 a.m.

Drivers were encouraged to take alternative routes to get past the crash. One option was to take Md. Route 97 to the Intercounty Connector. Another option was to take Route 29, which runs parallel to I-95.
