Driver hits Md. officer’s car on side of I-95

WASHINGTON — A woman was accused of impaired driving after allegedly driving into a Maryland Transportation Authority police officer’s car in Prince George’s County on Tuesday night.

The state police said that the officer was assisting a state trooper who was handling a collision on northbound Interstate 95 at the Intercounty Connector/Md. 200 a little after 11 p.m.

All the vehicles were parked off to the right side of the road in a construction zone, and the MDTA officer was sitting in his car with the emergency lights on, the state police said, when a Chevrolet Cruise driven by Carol Reed, of Columbia, Maryland, hit the driver’s side of the officer’s car.

Reed drove off, the police said. She was stopped later and arrested by the state police.

The officer was checked out at a hospital, but wasn’t injured, Lt. Kevin Ayd of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police said.

“Obviously, we’re very fortunate that our officer walked away with no injuries,” Ayd said, adding the importance of following Maryland’s law which requires drivers to slow down or moving over when passing emergency vehicles stopped with their lights on.
