Md. police credit community tips in arrest of man in triple homicide

WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County police are crediting tips from the community that led to the arrest of a suspect in a shooting that left three people dead and two others wounded in Forestville, Maryland.

Police say 24-year-old Lawrence Sylvester Rogers Jr., of Capitol Heights, has been charged with fatally shooting 50-year-old Carlina Renee Gray, 55-year-old Jan Marie Parks and 60-year-old Allen Rowlett.

A fourth and fifth victim were also shot. One remains in critical condition and the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Officers were called to the 3100 block of Orleans Avenue around 9:35 p.m. Friday for a shooting.

Upon arrival, police found five people shot inside a home. Three were pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives say they established Rogers as the suspect through investigation and numerous tips from the community. He was arrested Wednesday night in D.C.

Rogers is charged with three counts of first- and second-degree murder. He remains in custody while awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
