DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — Another student at the University of Maryland, College Park has reported being spied on in a dorm restroom.
It’s the third case of suspected voyeurism on the campus since October.
In the latest incident Wednesday evening, a male student, who was in a residence hall bathroom stall, said he noticed a smartphone peering in. The student shouted at the person holding the device and the person ran off.
Police were only able to get a description of the phone, which appeared to be an iPhone 6 in a gray and blue case.
University Police Chief David Mitchell said some may think these acts are pranks, but “sometimes the line’s crossed” into criminal misconduct.
Police are investigating two cases from October, where female students in different residence halls reported someone peering into their shower stalls. One woman reported seeing a man looking into her shower stall, while the other said she noticed a cell phone being held over the top of the stall.
Police say they don’t have reason to believe the three incidents are related. However, anyone who may have seen or heard anything should call University Police at 301-405-3555.
Mitchell says a suspect “could brag about it, not only in person, they could brag about it on social media.”
Meanwhile, he reminds students to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious behavior.
