Police: 500-pound man dies from apparent PCP overdose at Md. home

WASHINGTON — A 500-pound man reportedly under the influence of the drug PCP, died while being transported by paramedics from his home in Prince George’s County this week.

According to a release by county police on Saturday, police responded to a home in the 10000 block of Westwood Drive in Cheltenham on Wednesday night for the report of a person “possibly suffering from a PCP overdose.”

The man could be heard screaming and pounding on the walls during separate 911 calls by the man’s mother and uncle. The tape was released by police.  As officers headed to the home, the 911 dispatcher advised the mother to stay away from her son for her own safety. The man’s uncle called 911 from outside the home.

When officers arrived, they found the man upstairs, “naked and incoherent.” They needed two sets of handcuffs to control the man and put him on a comforter to remove him downstairs and onto a stretcher outside.  Paramedics failed to find a pulse after putting him into the ambulance on the scene.  Efforts were made to revive the man, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital. He has not been identified.

An autopsy revealed no signs of any injuries to the man’s body, and the family told investigators they saw no use of force by the officers. The toxicology test results could take several weeks, according to the police release.
