Police: Md. man beat mother to death with rolling pin

WASHINGTON — A Prince George’s County man is facing murder charges after police say he beat his mother to death with a rolling pin earlier this month.

Police say on Sept. 6, Charles Crockett, 22, got into an argument with his mother, 55-year-old Roberta Crockett, at her house in the 12000 block of Holiday Lane in Bowie. During the disagreement, Charles took a rolling pin and repeatedly hit Roberta in the head until she was unconscious, police say.

During the assault, a relative in the house intervened and injured Charles with the rolling pin. The relative was able to restrain Charles until police arrived.

When police responded, they found Roberta unresponsive. She was transported to an area hospital, but on Sept. 16, she died as a result of her injuries.

On Sept. 17, the Prince George’s County Police Department charged Charles with first- and second-degree murder.

Crockett is being held without bond.
