Woman’s death investigated as homicide after body found in fire

WASHINGTON – Police in Prince George’s County say they are investigating the death of a woman as a homicide after an Oxon Hill apartment fire on Sunday.

Firefighters were called to a three-story apartment building in the 600 block of Audrey Lane, just off the Indian Head Highway, around 5 a.m. The flames were put out quickly, and fire crews found the body of a woman inside the apartment.

The victim was identified as 21-year-old Latiqua Nicole Cherry. The Prince George’s County police say a medical examiner found Cherry died from trauma to the body before the fire was set in her apartment. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Police are now trying to determine a motive and identify a suspect in the investigation. Flyers were passed out in the Oxon Hill area Tuesday evening, with a reward of up to $25,000 offered.

Anyone with information about the case should call police at 301-772-4925. Callers can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
