2018 NFL Week 5 Recap

WASHINGTON — Reid’s return, Mason’s meltdown and a nearly impossible game of Where’s Waldo highlight the NFL Week 5 Recap.

Saints 43 Despite two weeks to prepare and entering the night sporting the league’s top passing defense, the Washington Generals … I mean Redskins, were nothing more than stooges for Drew Brees’ coronation as the NFL’s all-time passing yardage leader, and nearly allowed him to join the 500-TD club four days after Tom Brady became the third member of said club. Given all he means to New Orleans, it was fitting that Brees got to set the record in front of the home crowd on Monday Night Football. (AP Photo/Butch Dill)

Texans 19 (OT) Before DeAndre Hopkins put Dallas in a spin cycle to save the day, there were two big take-aways about Houston: Deshaun Watson gets hit way too much and the Texans nearly lost this game because of their red zone woes (six points in three goal-to-go possessions). Bill O’Brien can’t survive another losing season. (AP Photo/David J. Phillip)

Vikings 23
Eagles 21 I know he got credit for a late fumble that nearly cost Minnesota the game, but Kirk Cousins has historically played well against the Eagles and Sunday was no different. Ironically, he’s playing in circumstances nearly identical to what he had in Washington — a struggling run game and a defense best described as Jekyll and Hyde. (AP Photo/Michael Perez)

Rams 33
Seahawks 31 Aaron Donald was again legally roughing the passer, Todd Gurley had his third career 3 TD game, and the Rams overcame the loss of their top two receivers to snatch a win from a frisky Seahawks squad in a notoriously tough place to play. This really looks like a Super Bowl team. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

49ers 18 Look on the bright side, San Fran fans — you’re probably going to earn a top five pick in the 2019 draft and select a stud player to help Jimmy Garoppolo win many games for many years to come. Embrace the struggle. (AP Photo/Tony Avelar)

Raiders 10
Chargers 26 Has a home team that won in a blowout ever looked worse than the Los Angeles Chargers did Sunday? They spent the week preparing to get shouted out of their tiny soccer stadium and were the butt of a hilarious Where’s Waldo joke about their lack of support. The powder blue unis are a good look; the nomad — not so much. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

Giants 31
Panthers 33 Eric Reid continued his stand by kneeling and the Giants continued their slide into the NFC East basement, losing on a last-second 60+ yard field goal for the second time in as many seasons — this time, Graham Gano’s 63-yarder, which tied the record for longest game-winner and was one yard behind the all-time longest. New York’s head coach looks (and sounds) like a man not long for that gig. Steelers 41 If Pittsburgh’s Wi-Fi was spotty before, the connection between Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown was a hot spot on Sunday. With three straight division games next on the docket, the Steelers will need that to continue if they’re going to reclaim the AFC North. (Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)

Jets 34 What a week for Isaiah Crowell … First, he gets rewarded for wiping his butt against his opponents, then he sets a Jets franchise-record with 219 rushing yards against a solid Denver defense that allowed 512 yards total. I shudder to think what kind of numbers the Rams will hang on the Broncos next week. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig)

Lions 31 This game will be remembered in Green Bay as Mason’s meltdown: Mason Crosby, the 12-year veteran kicker, missed four makable field goals and an extra point — in a dome — to waste one of the guttiest performances in the storied career of Aaron Rodgers. This loss hurts the Packers’ playoff hopes. And give Detroit credit — they enter their bye with a decent 2-3 record with wins over Rodgers and Tom Brady. Not a bad first step in the Matt Patricia era. (AP Photo/Paul Sancya)

Browns 12 (OT) Baltimore had beaten Cleveland in 18 of the last 20 meetings and have a track record for feasting on rookie QBs — yet Baker Mayfield threw for the game’s lone touchdown to deliver the Browns their first win on a Sunday since December 2015 in what was Cleveland’s third overtime in five games this season. Believeland indeed. (AP Photo/Ron Schwane)

Bengals 27 Cincinnati scored 27 unanswered points, with two of their three touchdowns coming on defensive scores. Are the Bengals a team of destiny or a con job taking advantage of a soft early-season slate? With the Steelers and Chiefs next on the schedule, we’re about to find out. (AP Photo/Gary Landers)

Colts 24
Patriots 38 Injury-apolis somehow found themselves more banged up, Andrew Luck’s questionable arm got a ridiculous workout (he threw 121 passes in five days), and the Colts defense was carved up by a less-than-stellar performance by the suddenly human Tom Brady. Indy is one Redskins no-show away from being winless. (Photo by Adam Glanzman/Getty Images)
