2016 NFL Week 3 Recap

Falcons 45
Saints 32 It wasn’t nearly as impactful as the famous Steve Gleason play exactly 10 years ago, but Deion Jones 90-yard Pick 6 was every bit as emotional for the New Orleans native. And this is the first time in my lifetime the Falcons have won a Monday Night game on the road. I’m just going to let that sink in for a moment… Atlanta Falcons outside linebacker Deion Jones (45) intercepts a pass from New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, not pictured, and returns it for a touchdown, in the second half of an NFL football game in New Orleans, Monday, Sept. 26, 2016. Jaguars 17 Joe Flacco’s uneven play is back, but — lucky for Charm City — so is the Ravens’ defense. The D (and Justin Tucker’s clutch play: His 54-yard game winner makes him 11-for-12 in his career when kicking with a chance to tie the game or take the lead with under two minutes left in regulation) is the reason Baltimore is 3-0 for the first time since 2009. Panthers 10
Like their purple counterparts, Minnesota is 3-0 for the first time since 2009, but the Vikings feel decidedly less fluky: The defense is dominant (eight sacks, three takeaways and a safety Sunday) and the new QB is playing well despite spending less than a month in Minny. While Baltimore has played a soft schedule, the Vikes have beaten the rival Packers and just held the reigning MVP to his fourth career game with no TDs and three picks. Purple Reign, indeed. Browns 24
Dolphins 30 (OT) The QB carousel continues to spin at a historic rate: The last team to start three different quarterbacks in their first three games of the season was the 2008 Chiefs (who finished 2-14). And in perhaps the most Browns thing ever, Cleveland is only the second team since the 1970 merger to start five different QBs in five consecutive regular season games. After his historic all-around game (and weird will to win), perhaps it’s time for even more Terrelle Pryor. (Photo by Eric Espada/Getty Images)

Cardinals 18
Bills 33 Rex Ryan says a helluva lot of stuff we should ignore, but this time he called it correctly. Buffalo is 4-1 all-time against the Cardinals and haven’t lost to them since 1971, leaving Arizona as bewildered as Wilford Brimley. (Photo by Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images)

Raiders 17
Titans 10 Oakland’s defense finally showed up, helping the Raiders to their first 2-0 start on the road in 14 years. While they’re not Super Bowl ready like that 2002 squad, the Raiders did take another step toward ending their playoff drought. (Photo by Frederick Breedon/Getty Images)

Packers 34 I’m not sure whose return was more welcomed by Green Bay fans … Jordy Nelson’s or the referee’s. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

Broncos 29
Bengals 17 Trevor Siemian is the first QB in NFL history to throw for over 300 yards and 4 TDs without an interception in his first career road start, which helps Denver start 3-0 for the second straight season (and third time in their last four seasons). Niners 18
Seahawks 37 Now this is the San Francisco team I thought we’d see in 2016: The 49ers have allowed 83 points in the two games since their Week 1 shutout and couldn’t stop a one-legged Russell Wilson even though they damn near broke his good leg. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)
KANSAS CITY, MO - SEPTEMBER 25: Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick #14 of the New York Jets tries to throw a pass during the tackle attempt of outside linebacker Frank Zombo #51 of the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium during the second quarter of the game on September 25, 2016 in Kansas City, Missouri. Jets 3
Chiefs 24
Generally, the only thing worse than a pick 6 is 6 picks. But consider Ryan Fitzpatrick’s company: The only other Jets QB to have an awful 6-pack of picks was none other than Joe Namath … and Broadway Joe did it three times. I’d be remiss if I didn’t take my hat off to Andy Reid … KC’s masterpiece performance tied him with his mentor Mike Holmgren for 13th on the NFL’s all-time wins list (174). If he can end the Chiefs’ Super Bowl drought, he’s a cinch Hall-of-Famer. (Photo by Peter Aiken/Getty Images)

Steelers 3
Eagles 34 Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz are just the second rookie coach/QB tandem in NFL history to start 3-0. The other? Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez. Don’t get comfy, Philly. And this stings for Pittsburgh: Sunday’s loss was their worst since 1989 and dropped them to 28-48-3 all-time in this Keystone Clash. (Photo by Alex Goodlett/Getty Images)

Texans 0
Patriots 27 This is exactly what I was talking about last week: New England is so good they can buoy up an unheralded rookie by catering an offense to his skill set on the fly, get the ground game to take the lead against a stout defense, shut down the best defensive player on the planet and get the defense to pitch the Pats’ first shut out in four years. Be very afraid of the Patriots. (Photo by Adam Glanzman/Getty Images)
