Charlottesville’s Ditto looks for more funding to fuel freelancer platform

After garnering a $20,000 Commonwealth Commercialization Fund grant, Charlottesville’s Ditto is looking to build out its platform and seek more funding.

Over the past three years, founders Elizabeth Heinberg and Claire Glisson have built out a platform for freelancers that helps with contract, invoicing and payment, but they have a vision for a larger set of tools. They want to be a centralized depository for all documents related to doing creative freelance work. The founders envision a place where Ditto acts as the administrative infrastructure for creative professionals, a common challenge for self-employed people.

Ditto does have some active users, but the grant will used for more customer discovery. Heinberg has conducted more than 100 interviews and is planning to do more. She has a sense of products that need to be added to the platform and believes “the opportunity is bigger than we originally thought.”
