Greg O’Dell to step down from Events D.C. after nearly 13 years in the post

Greg O’Dell, the head of D.C.’s conventions and sports authority, is moving on after nearly 13 years overseeing major initiatives, including construction of the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Congress Heights.

O’Dell has accepted a new role as president of venue management for Philadelphia-based OVG360, a venue management and hospitality company owned by global sports and entertainment company Oak View Group. He will step down as president and CEO of Events D.C., as the authority is more commonly known, in April.

The 52-year-old chief executive has had his hands full in the past two years enhancing health and safety measures at the city’s major event venues, including the 2.3 million-square-foot Walter E. Washington Convention Center, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and working in collaboration with Destination D.C. to revitalize the city’s hospitality industry after a steep downturn caused by the public health crisis.
