Amazon to close all brick-and-mortar bookstores, 4-Star. Here’s how the D.C. area will be affected.

Amazon.com Inc. will close all of its physical bookstores, pop-up stores and shops carrying toys and other home goods across the United States and the United Kingdom, impacting six locations in Greater Washington.

The company’s grocery brands, Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Markets, are not affected. In fact, that’s where Amazon is turning its attention to as it shutters its other stores.

“We’ve decided to close our Amazon 4-star, Books and Pop Up stores, and focus more on our Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, Amazon Go and Amazon Style stores and our Just Walk Out technology,” an Amazon spokesperson said in an email. “We remain committed to building great, long-term physical retail experiences and technologies, and we’re working closely with our affected employees to help them find new roles within Amazon.”
