Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure: Road closures, participant information, weather

WASHINGTON — Thousands of people will flock to D.C. Saturday for the 2014 Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure.

The 5K, which raises awareness about breast cancer and helps fund research, begins Saturday morning and will close roads in D.C. Major road closures will begin at 5 a.m.

The race will begin and end at the Washington Monument on the National Mall.

15th Street between Constitution and Independence will be closed starting at 2 a.m.

From 5 a.m. through 11 a.m., the following roads will be closed:

  1. 15th St NW between Independence and Ohio Dr. SW
  2. Madison Dr. SW (between 14th and 15th St.)
  3. Jefferson (between 14th and 15th St.)
  4. Independence Ave. – west of 14th St. NW to the Lincoln Memorial
  5. Westbound traffic on 395 will be directed to exit at 12th Street until 11 a.m.
  6. Rock Creek Parkway exit eastbound from Memorial Bridge
  7. 23rd St. SW

All roads will reopen by 11 a.m.

Event participants are encouraged to use the Metro to travel to and from the National Mall. Metro will open early at 5 a.m. For more information about Metro transit, visit the Metro website.
