D.C. identify man in fatal Suitland Parkway crash

WASHINGTON– Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a crash that left 45-year-old Jeffery Asberry Ewings of Capitol Heights. Md., dead on Friday night.

According to police, Ewings was driving his 2008 GMC Yukon eastbound on Suitland Parkway when he lost control and collided with the bridge abutment for the Martin Luther King Avenue overpass. He had to be extricated from the GMC by the D.C. Fire Department and transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where he was pronounced dead.

The accident closed down both directions of the parkway between Firth Sterling Avenue and Stanton Road until early Sunday morning.

This crash is currently under investigation.
