Live Chat: Dr. Thomas LoRusso, sleep specialist (March 4, 2013)

WASHINGTON – Americans will lose an hour of sleep on Sunday when they set their clocks ahead one hour to adjust to daylight saving time.

One in five Americans does not get the recommended amount of sleep each night and millions suffer from chronic sleep problems, such as insomnia, sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome, according to the National Sleep Foundation.

Dr. Thomas LoRusso, director at the Northern Virginia Sleep Diagnostic Center, joined WTOP on Monday for a live chat to answer your questions about sleep: How important it is, how best to get quality sleep and sleep-related problems.

LoRusso’s visit not only corresponds with the upcoming “spring forward,” but also falls in the beginning of National Sleep Awareness Week.
