McLEAN, Va. – The Federal Aviation Administration will brief McLean residents on new technology officials believe will cut back on noise complaints about planes approaching Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
“My understanding is is it a GPS-based system that allows better controls for planes taking off and landing,” says Rob Jackson, president of the McLean Citizens Association.
McLean residents, particularly those living along the Potomac River, have complained for years about airplane noise.
Jackson says planes going north are supposed to stay over the Potomac River until they get to the American Legion Bridge.
Residents say pilots often end up encroaching over land and causing unnecessary noise.
The forum, put together by Rep. Frank Wolf and the McLean Citizens Association, is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Firehouse Teen Center at 1440 Chain Bridge Rd.
