SILVER SPRING, Md. — Montgomery County police have arrested a 16-year-old they say shot a teen in February over a dispute involving a cellphone.

Damien Jared Fox Jr. — whom police had sought since an arrest warrant was issued March 1 — was found Monday at the home of a Silver Spring relative. Fox is being charged as an adult with first-degree assault, attempted armed robbery and the use of a handgun during a violent crime.

On the morning of Feb. 26, authorities said, Fox shot a 17-year-old male outside a residence in the 13900 block of Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, where the victim was visiting friends.

Fox, who knew the victim, had repeatedly demanded that the 17-year-old hand over his cellphone, police said. The victim refused, then was shot as he walked to Paint Branch High School.

He was later taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
