WASHINGTON — Police say they’ve charged two people in connection with the murder of a man at a Silver Spring motel.
Sulaimain Jalloh, 24, of Bowie, was identified as the man who was killed early Sunday in the parking lot of the Days Inn in Silver Spring, the Montgomery County police said in a statement.
Ruben Ortiz, 20, of Adelphi, and Shanee Collette Cox, 19, of Wheaton, have each been charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery, according to police. They were arrested around 10 p.m. on Sunday.
The police said that Jalloh was with a small group of friends at the Silver Spring Metro station on Saturday when they were approached by Ortiz and Cox, who offered to sell Jalloh marijuana. Police said they agreed to meet in front of the Days Inn for the transaction just after 11 p.m.
But instead of buying marijuana from Ortiz and Cox, the police said, Jalloh’s group robbed Ortiz of cash and his shoes.
Later that night, Ortiz and a small group of people went to the room at the Days Inn where Jalloh was staying and demanded that he return the cash and shoes stolen from him.
Just before 2:30 a.m., Jalloh left his room and walked to the parking lot, where he was beaten, stabbed and robbed by a group of people including Ortiz and Cox, police say.
Jalloh then returned to his room and police and fire personnel were called. Jalloh was then taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, the police said.
Ortiz and Cox are being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center without bond. A bond review hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Rockville District Court, police said.
The police are still looking for suspects in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 240-773-5070.
