Police charge 2 men suspected of assaulting gay couple

WASHINGTON — Two men suspected of assaulting a gay couple last month during a fight outside a restaurant in Olney, Maryland, have been charged with second-degree assault.

Montgomery County police arrested Jose Luis Ledesma-Chavez, 24, of Olney, on Nov. 4. Maryland State Police arrested 24-year-old Hamdan Ibrahim Bibi Vincent, of Beltsville, on Thursday.

The two gay men, who are married, were sitting with friends at the the Green Turtle on Town Center Drive in Olney in the early-morning hours on Oct. 22. Police said Ledesma-Chavez, who was with a larger group at the restaurant, walked up behind the men, poured water on one of them and referred to his sexual orientation in a derogatory manner.

A fight later broke out in the parking lot, and Ledesma-Chavez and Vincent both assaulted the two gay men before taking off in different vehicles, police said.

The two gay men were taken to the hospital for their injuries, which were not life-threatening.
