Young girl called hero for dialing 911, saving her father

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 7-year-old girl is being called a hero for swooping in and rescuing her diabetic father when she discovered him unconscious in February at her Silver Spring home.

“He was on the floor,” said Jenna Viloria. “He couldn’t wake up and he wouldn’t answer.”

Viloria knew exactly what to do. She picked up the phone and dialed 911, calmly telling the dispatcher what was wrong.

Paramedics arrived, gave her father a glucose shot, and brought him back to consciousness.

“I was kind of proud of myself,” Viloria said smiling.

During a ceremony Wednesday morning, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue lauded Viloria, calling her a hero and giving her a plaque and a medal.

“The courage and ability that Jenna displayed that day was quite unique,” said county fire chief Scott Goldstein. “During those emergencies, every second counts.”
