Suspect arrested following Wheaton sexual offenses

WASHINGTON — A man has been arrested and charged with committing sexual offenses for recent incidents committed in Montgomery County, Maryland.

William Brown Jr. — 21, of Wheaton — is connected with three incidents that occurred in February.

On Feb. 4, a 33-year-old woman was using the self-checkout at a Safeway located along Georgia Avenue. Brown approached the victim and began touching her inappropriately, according to police information. The victim began to resist and Brown fled from the area.

The next day, a 30-year-old woman was putting her groceries in her vehicle after shopping at the same Safeway store. The vehicle was parked in the garage located under the store. Brown approached the woman and began touching her inappropriately.

Police said he grabbed her and attempted to push her inside the vehicle. The victim began to struggle and fell to the ground. Brown fled from the area when an unknown person entered the parking area. The victim suffered a broken finger.

On Feb. 10, a 22-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk in the area of the Mid-County Regional Services Center when Brown approached her from behind, touched her inappropriately, and attempted to pull down her pants. The woman was able to break free from Brown and he fled from the area.

Brown, Jr. was identified via surveillance video obtained by detectives. He told investigators that he “bumped” into a woman in the garage; his description of her matched the Feb. 5 victim’s description.

Brown is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims of Brown’s criminal conduct who have not reported the incidents to police.

Anyone who has information regarding a sexual offense involving Brown. Jr. should contact the Montgomery County Police-Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5050.
