Montgomery Co. officer hit by vehicle, seriously injured

WASHINGTON — A Montgomery County, Maryland police officer was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle during a traffic stop Thursday night.

It happened around 9:45 p.m. on Rockville Pike near Edmonston Drive.

According to Montgomery County police, the officer was hit while on foot during a traffic stop.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was taken into custody and charged with drunk driving.

Police say the officer who was hit was taken to a hospital; he’s in serious condition.

Rockville Pike was closed for a few hours overnight between Edmonston Drive and Talbot Street, but reopened to traffic around 3 a.m.
