Service restored to Metro station, assault suspect at large

WASHINGTON– Service has been restored to the Wheaton Metro station after an earlier closure due to police activity.

Service to the station was shut down around 10 p.m. Friday night after Metro Transit officers chased an unidentified suspect through the station. The suspect ran into a train tunnel as officers approached him.

The suspect is wanted for trespassing and sexual assault. Police report the female victim is unhurt. After searching the station and train tunnels, police were unable to locate the suspect.

Metro has not confirmed whether the assault happened inside the station.
