Roads reopened in Bethesda after gas line break

WASHINGTON — About 30 people were evacuated to the Bethesda library and several roads were closed on Tuesday afternoon after a “high pressure” gas line break in Bethesda, according to Pete Piringer, Montgomery County fire and EMS spokesman.

HazMat officials responded to the scene on the 4800 block of Montgomery Lane, between Arlington Road and Woodmont Avenue, around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The area was cordoned off for more than an hour.

Firefighters were on standby as gas company crews attempted to “crimp” the broken 3-inch gas line, Piringer tweeted.

Woodmont Avenue reopened around 4 p.m.
