ROCKVILLE, Md. – Leaders in Montgomery County are considering two proposals that would limit activity at a small airport in Gaithersburg following a disastrous crash.
Six people were killed when a jet crashed into a home near the Montgomery County Airpark last month.
“After meeting with the county executive and with some of the stakeholders in the community, we really want to take a look at a number of things that they raised as prime concerns,” says Montgomery County Councilman Craig Rice.
One proposal would limit the number of practice flights from pilots. Currently, they are allowed to take off and land repeatedly.
The second proposal would reduce the overall hours of operations at the airpark. The facility operates 24-hours a day.
“This is the beginning of our conversation, but it’s one that’s going to continue throughout this year,” explains Rice.
Meanwhile, a committee that focuses on airpark issues is expected to hear concerns from the community during a hearing Wednesday evening.
