All-Star week event guide

WASHINGTON — The MLB All-Star Game is back in Washington after almost 50 years. It is the fifth time the District has hosted the game, and the first time since 1969.

Starting Friday, July 13 and running up to the big night Tuesday, July 17 at Nationals Park, there are lots of official events scheduled.

Run, don’t walk, to the festivities listed below.

All-Star Week schedule:

Friday

What: Armed Services Classic
Where: Nationals Park
When: Gates open 5 p.m., game starts 7 p.m.
About: Support service members in this co-ed adult softball tournament made up of teams of active duty personnel from each of the five military branches.

Saturday

What: The Color Run MLB All-Star 5K
Where: The Yards Park (intersection of First and M Streets SE)
When: 8 a.m.
About: Nike’s Color Run participants get a limited edition kit, which includes a unicorn hero medal and limited edition All-Star 5K Nike T-shirt. MLB mascots and legends will be there.

Sunday

What: SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game
Where: Nationals Park
When: Gates open 2 p.m., game starts 4 p.m.
About: Top Minor League prospects duke it out in a nine-inning contest.

What: Legends & Celebrity Softball Game
Where: Nationals Park
When: Gates open 2 p.m., game starts after Futures Game
About: Celebrities, musicians, actors and athletes from other sports team up with former MLB stars for lighthearted competition. Follows the All-Star Futures Game. WWE superstar The Miz will be there, among others.

Monday

What: T-Mobile Home Run Derby
Where: Nationals Park
When: 8 p.m.
About: MLB stars from across the American and National leagues step up to the plate to crush some home runs.

Tuesday

What: MLB All-Star Game
Where: Nationals Park
When: 8 p.m., FOX coverage starts at 7:30 p.m.
About: It’s the Midsummer Classic!

About: The GEICO All-Star Fanfest features different experiences for fans on different days. Friday is all about celebrating the players, the community and the city of Washington, D.C. Saturday and Sunday pay tribute to the history of the District. Monday delves into the history of the Washington Nationals, honoring current and former members of the team. The day will feature autograph sessions, photo opportunities, and special clinics. Tuesday will feature legends who played in various All-Star Games throughout their career. Fans will have the opportunity to win tickets to the All-Star Game.

About: The MLB and its programming partners (USA Baseball, USA Softball, The Positive Coaching Alliance, Boys & Girls Club of America, Chevy, Scotts and Nathan’s Famous) are hosting activities for youth baseball and softball players and their families.
