WASHINGTON — After a few days of sunshine, the region’s battle with wet weather continues over the weekend as parts of the D.C. area received warnings for severe thunderstorms and flash flooding.
Storm Team 4 meteorologists Somara Theodore said floods may threaten the region through the end of the weekend.
“The atmosphere is well primed and we are well positioned for thunderstorm development. Where these storms pop up, they will be slow movers thus flooding a likely possibility,” said Theodore. “The storms are also packed with lightning. The threat for severe weather sticks with us through and just after sunset.”
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from 2 p.m. Sunday through the night for the following areas:

Virginia
- City of Alexandria
- Arlington County
- Fairfax County
- Stafford County
- Loudoun County
- Fauquier County
- Prince William County
Maryland
- Calvert County
- St. Mary’s County
- Baltimore County
- Anne Arundel County
- City of Baltimore
- Prince George’s County
- Howard County
- Charles County
- Carroll County
- Montgomery County
Parts of Prince George’s County were under a flash flood warning earlier Saturday and a severe thunderstorm warning that affected parts of Calvert County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George’s County was canceled early.

He said storms popped up in the areas northeast of D.C. just before 1 p.m. Ritter also pointed to storms close to Alexandria, Virginia, calling the rain events “widely scattered.”
