WHALEYVILLE, Md. (AP) — A Maryland man suffered minor injuries when his friend mistook him for a turkey and shot him.
The Daily Times reports Maryland Natural Resources Police said in a statement that 66-year-old Dennis Eugene Yoder and 67-year-old James Henry Gilbert set up to hunt within 50 yards (45 meters) of each other on leased Chesapeake Forest Land in Whaleyville on Jan. 20, as was their practice.
With an obstructed line of sight, Yoder spied movement and what he thought was the red-and-white coloring of a turkey, and fired his shotgun.
Gilbert yelled that he was hit. Yoder drove Gilbert to a hospital, where he was treated for pellet wounds to his head, legs and hand, and released.
The Worcester County State’s Attorney is reviewing the case for possible charges.
