WASHINGTON — Work to repair a collapsing portion of the U.S. 50 Salisbury Bypass is wrapping up and both eastbound lanes will reopen in time for weekend beach getaway traffic.
The eastbound lanes are set to reopen at 6 a.m. Friday, the Maryland State Highway Administration announced.
The lanes were shut down earlier this week for emergency repairs after heavy rains led to accelerated erosion around a drain pipe.
Before the emergency repairs, one of the eastbound lanes had been shuttered for weeks to fix pavement damage.
The highway administration said the repairs should last at least through the end of beach season.
More than 40,000 cars usually use the stretch each day with even higher volumen on summer weekends.
