WASHINGTON — A blast from a Loudoun County quarry Thursday morning inadvertently sent rocks flying through the air, causing an injury and damage to houses and cars.
Loudoun County Department of Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management responded to reports of a rocky blast causing damage in a Sterling neighborhood at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
First responders arrived at the intersection of Old Ox Road and Oakgrove Road and discovered that falling debris had caused damage to several buildings and cars in the area.
One person sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The debris was caused when a scheduled blast from a nearby quarry sent the rocks into the neighborhood, said Loudoun County fire officials.
The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) are investigating the incident.
Any residents who believe they were impacted can report a complaint to DMME at 434-951-6310.
